DORKING WANDERERS VS  BILLERICAY  TOWN

18TH  JANUARY  2020

“SWASHBUCKLING  DRAW”

This game turned out to be a fitting farewell to Martin Beard(Dorking’s player/coach/scout). He will be greatly missed, by one and all.

I was personally moved by the respect of the crowd and the visitors “Billericay Town” for being part of a heartfelt tribute to this man. What a fantastic game was played out, throwing the coaching manual out the window – for this one !

Touche’ and off we go !

Billericay defence – (like a stiff collar) being directed by defender Mr Henry. Dorking, probing but not forceful in their plight, took advantage on eleven minutes as McManus was allowed time and space to choose the top corner to put Dorking 1- 0 up.

Billericay’s collars felt and immediately became more attentive and determined to get in the game. Long range shot by Paxman, was deflected, sending keeper Huk the wrong way – 1 a piece. Billericay now on the front foot saw Dorking guilty of lapsed defending and watched Akinwande do his boot lace up, pull up his socks and have time to make it 2 – 1 Billericay.

HALF  TIME

Dorking showing all the signs of “ after the Lord Mayor’s show” went further behind when the impressive Paxman evaded three tackles, but Sam Beard didn’t miss him – now 3 – 1 as Robinson finishes penalty.

Substitutions made by Dorking –  Buchanan immediate effect, pulls one back for Dorking. 2 – 3 . Billericay now slowing the game down at every opportunity, not for the connoisseur – but hey “This is football”

Dorking started to find the gaps. Briggs shows Kennedy a clean pair of heels and eventually Prior finishes the move. 3 a piece.

Dorking guilty again, of lapsed marking, but taking nothing away from Douglas Loft to score upstairs in the corner. 4 – 3 to Billericay.

Then disbelief, as Paxman left three defenders with wet back sides. Leaving an open goal, then struck what turned out to be the “Ghost on the post”. The ball ushered upfield to safety.

Closing minutes – Dorking’s Briggs, crossed in the hope of someone’s head being on the end of it, but watched gleefully as much as the home crowd did, as it flew into the net – cross or shot – Who cares?

Final result: Dorking Wanderers 4     Billericay  Town 4

Thank you very much gentlemen, great game!
