VANARARMA NATIONAL LEAGUE 17TH SEPTEMBER 2022-23

A very vibrant Meadowbank 2402 crowd -numbers aided by a great Notts County support but noise level’s coming to a shuddering halt as we all respected a minute silence and sung the national anthem. Truly sad memories but what a Queen, gone in person but not in our hearts. R I P

Only 53 seconds on the clock and Dorking’s Ottoway nearly got us off to a perfect getaway, County keeper Slocombe fending off the effort with a big boot shortly afterwards Wheeler missed a good chance to put Dorking in front. Notts County surge forward with Cameron, who went un-opposed towards the Dorking area- I believe we are in for a’ hum dinga’ of a game, Dorking showing an eagerness to shut down space and not let Notts County play out of defence it, left oceans of room for both teams to exploit interesting where we go from here. County with-out any discredit seem to have a little more about them and in Langstaff-touch and bringing people into the game was exceptional, also wide man Memane who thankfully took an extra bit of footwork allowing Dorking time to batten the hatches down. In fairness Dorking’s Gallagher’s commitment was great and the only time he got in trouble was when he got to close and got turned. Referee Richardson must have loved a bit of rugby he was letting more stuff go than someone trying to clear their boot sale stall !! You know bookings are on the way and they did-3 in quick succession for Dorking. Notts County then decide to play a higher line, and keeper Slocombe strolling out to hit the big men up front, ready to play the second ball, nice tactic however on one occasion the pass never got there, McShane intercepted neat control, looked up saw what was on today’s special and chipped home to an empty net 1-0 Dorking, on 19 mins. The Magpies (nickname for county) were not used to being the victims of theft so straight on the attack. Dorking change 2 clientele-Egan for Taylor and Sami-El-abd for Wheeler a rear- guard action being put in place. Backs to the wall and there were more blocks than our sewage network. Dorking keeper Lincoln -dressed all in budgie yellow, was flying about he caught, he saved he punched -surely not superman !! It’s not because he got chipped on the edge of the box the ball goal bound Langstaff waiting to nod home and out of the sky leaps Gallagher and heads clear-brilliant the cream was coming to the top-don’t bottle it. H/T DORKING 1 NOTTS COUNTY 0

Notts County straight at it, Memane fires across the face of the goal on 46 mins Space on County left hand side allows the competent full back Chicksen to start linking play in and around the flank, it’s not long before Dorking are retreating the ball gets fed into Scott, who has time to evade any tackles and puts the justifiable equaliser into bottom right side of Dorking’s net -It’s one each. On 57 min’s a clash in the war zone and keeper Lincoln injured alongside Memane ,concern is more for the keeper as a head injury seems to be the problem. We wait several minutes, and ref Richardson is happy we can play on. He awards a drop ball to Notts County-they were in possession before the incident, Nice gesture from Langstaff as he waves to the keeper to acknowledge he is ok, then plonks the cross into the box !! All is fair in love n’ war. Then on the 63rd min we get Dorking’s first corner. It would appear County took exception to this and replaced 2 players to enable them to put the game to rest. Dorking spirit was fantastic and with the crowd singing away, a draw would be a great result-or would it!! Attack after attack and Dorking rode their luck but committed to the cause screams for handball when Langstaff fired in, Dorking hit the open space and get 2nd and 3rd corners on 82 and 83 min’s. Another replacement Dorking bring on Jebb for Ottoway on 85 min. Again Notts County go forward Langstaff bundled over, ref plays on ball falls for Chicksen the perfect strike before the perfect storm, as it was tipped over by the birdman of Meadowbank, Now for the the perfect storm Dorking seek openings and high shot towards goal reaps madness among home support, Slocombe in goal watches it going over but it hits the woodwork and McShane slams home 2-1 Dorking. on around 93 mins. Notts County await for a speedy restart as they go forward Dorking break away, Seager shoots Slocombe parries and the rest is history McShane gets his third and matchball. f/t Dorking Wanderers 3 Notts County 1

I’ve seen a flower bloom, a man on the moon and now I’ve seen an elephant fly

Notts County, you will need a beer or two, games can be like this. Good luck for the rest of the season
