MERSTHAM VS WINGATE & FINCHLEY 1ST JAN 2022
Alarm bell’s for this and lower standards of football .Could be taken wrong for my next comment ,as of taking the knee for “racial ” reason’s etc .Well we should take the knee for the men/women in black who officiate our great game ,whose number’s are falling weekly ,so please place that in mind when you are shouting your never wrong decisions and remember no replays-thankfully with some of the football we watch !! To be honest we all want a flowing game but how far do they let it go ,this game prove in the pudding .They don’t make the ‘LAW’S ‘player’s and manager’s make their own rule’s .OH A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Wingate get us under-way ,immediately thumping the ball into the corner, and let’s go find the weak link ,it seemed all the player’s converged into that zone ,throw- in ,closing down and the start of a few tasty challenges ref Heron ,looked like he was in charge of the pond. Sadly Wingate forward Kearney pulled up with an hamstring injury on 11min’s-it suggested he may of been not match fit or very un-lucky .To be honest for me it was going back in time ,Wingate played with a flat back line ,and any ball down the flanks or over the top ,called for obstructive tactic’s and a bit of ushering out of play-still better than size 9 I suppose !!
First effort on target for the visitors on 25 ,long range shot deflected for a corner by Bani.no panic from the corner .Foul committed by Mavila, as Merstham cleared .Free kick hoisted over the flat defence ,Merstham full back Mason fired in ,and despite a great effort to clear, the goal was awarded on 27mins.Merstham 1-0.Tackles began to fire in from both side’s, I can see trouble ahead!! ps ,I’ve not forgotten my earlier comment’s but it’s just my eye’s not mouth .Another change from Wingate, and booking’s mounting.43min’s saw Merstham awarded a penalty to which Henry dispatched to keeper’s right 2-0 the host’s, and apart from one more late challenge from Armoo, h/t Merstham 2-Wingate & Finchley 0
The pattern of the second 45,was’nt dis-similar from the first ,very stop start and being clear in front, allowed Merstham the luxury for more expansive play than they have been able to express in previous week’s .To be fair Wingate still showed they were not going to lay down ,and kept at it but the damage had already been done. .Then on 66 min’s Amoo was alleged to have caused a foul from a deep corner ,and again Henry put Merstham 3-0 up with an assured penalty kick ,a little harsh but if it is not your day !! Liam Smyth pulled a goal back but like trying to get the last drink at a new years party it was’nt going to make all thing’s good again.
