9th October 2021 Vanarama National League South (crowd 747)

Non League Football thrives on supporters, and with this number we’re off to a “flying start”

We commenced the match with a burley looking Bath line-up, who looked quite content to let Dorking have possession. This led to congestion in the last third of the pitch .However this worked for the visitors as their first real attack led to referee “Hughes” penalising a gentle brush ,still no touchy touch in the box. Up steps Cooke who firmly fires into debutant keeper “Nelson” left hand post 1-0 Bath city on 7 mins .The game started to open up more and Dorking began to spray the ball around.to be honest I thought at times a bit alarmingly -cross field and an interception a nightmare!! But it paid off one such pass finding “Briggs” who left three defenders in his wake to send a knee high bullet cross ,met by” Rutherfords” right boot 1-1 on 19 mins. Baths response didn’t appear that urgent ,but” Frear” drove a neat cross into the danger zone but alas no on the same wave length .Dorking found that attacking the flanks seemed the best policy; “Rutherford” returning the service to “Briggs” whose header was neatly put away, the old one two turned the score into the new 2-1 Dorking .Quiet for the rest of the half with both teams looking forward to their cup of tea ( and me) ht Dorking leading 2-1

2ND HALF Dorking sub Wheeler on for Kealy

47 mins short corner by Dorking’s” Moore “was met by “Briggs” who’s powerful strike brought the best from on loan keeper from QPR “Mahoney”.-both deserve a pat on the head .As the game settled into a pattern of more “peppering” tactics from Dorking which saw them get on top of proceeding’s and sadly the Bath supporters didn’t looking a bit disappointed .They struggled to hold any meaningful moves ,and they only way forward was at the expense of Dorking’s “Harris” who kept getting himself the wrong side and creating the odd free kick. 78 mins was the time for Dorking’s third “Rutherford” in space down the flank, neatly turning the defender passing to the un-attended” McShane “who fired into the roof of the net 3-1.Two minutes later the same two players combined the out come as before but not as neat “McShane” making 4-1 to Dorking .

All in all a competent performance from the home side although manager Marc White still had a chat with the official’s ( assuming it was the nice weather ) Bath have more questions than answers. However they have great support and will push forward . full time Dorking 4 Bath City
