18TH MARCH 2023 PITCHING IN – SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION

There is a little bit of drizzle in the air ,as I begin to write my report lets hope the players run as much as my ink .The two sides neck to neck in the league both at present with in-different form, plenty of ‘jaw exercise ‘ as they head for the pitch. Ref Mr Goldup , very open in his welcome to the player’s ,let’s see how this one will go.

As I have noticed before in this league ,play always seems very quick and touch has to be pretty spot on.-astro turf helps . 5 mins in and SOUTH PARKS’ JOHNSON,’ finds himself in space but keeper WHEELER equal to the task and he smoothers well.7mins and WESTFIELD forward BAXTER skips past the defender and shoots from distance, but more of warning shot across the ‘bow’. As the game speeds on, tackles/ trips start to get the ‘verbal’ and ‘moaning’ going , and with the ref GOLDUP, clearly indicating ‘play on’ on numerous occasions but as it pans out in life let alone football, you cannot please every-one. One thing I did notice that WESTFIELD played with , the intent to hit the fullback areas, DRINKWATER for SOUTH PARK, found this out as he had busy bee NEVES, confronting him. He then found himself up against EFEDJE but managed to get a well timed tackle in, screams for a penalty – no locals moaning at the ref at the moment !! 14 mins a quick interchange within the SOUTH PARK box NDOMBE got himself the correct side of the marker, and curled in a cute shot top right corner ,visitors 1 up. At this time not only were WESTFIELD in front they seemed to be more eager in attitude but I’m sure this won’t be for the duration of the proceedings .The fact SOUTH PARK were getting shut down meant, that the front men who not getting decent ball, so play was limited to a break more than passing. On 20mins SOUTH PARKs McELLIGOTT the first one to break and the delivery although good ,had no one on the end of it. Then we were awaiting for a foot on the ball, and this came from WESTFIED player BAXTER who backed into the marker ,got a free-kick ‘simples’. Groans of displeasure from the crowd, but with the ref waving normally to let play continue, he may have been getting worried he’d be flying off somewhere- crowd 50/50 opinion on that remark !! As we home into the end of the half SOUTH PARK created a couple of chances albeit slim, they were blocked by keeper WHEELER. This was a half where the visitors ,although well on top didn’t reap what they sowed. H/T South Park 0 Westfield 1

The clouds were moving in, SOUTH PARK need to do the same. This was the case and they were to first to force a corner, sadly poor delivery. WESTFIELD tried slow it down, but SOUTH PARK don’t lie down and after a scare from efforts by WESTFIELD players KNIGHT and NDOMBE, they started to get a foot hold, and the introduction of MELFORD SIMPSON, meant play will be simplified ,because nothing too difficult-its on the tin !!

Again ref GOLDUP ( i’m sure he has a degree in jousting ) now getting questioned by both side’s ,needless to say the card’s were making a appearance at last. Chances that did come along were mainly hurried ,but SIMPSON had changed things as they seemed to back off and the odd nod/flick on was creating space. Then on 76 mins replacement FORD attacked the open area down the flank ,fairly fortunate with the first touch but he put his foot down, heading goal-wards hits a thunderous cross which was headed home by KING to draw things level. The game now wide and open both sides chasing the win, but things started going down the individual route .meaning more tackles flying in and the ref becoming the most noticed person on the pitch. In a couple of incidents penalty claims and a sending off, calls bellowing around the ground, he had created a bit of passion. Whistle blows and you thought it was over ,well football was. No names, however a WESTFIELD player launches a ball into the crowd, causing a melee, as it just misses a lady. Plenty of pushing and shoving and he gets a RED card .I thought this game was coming to a head !! F/T! South Park 1 Westfield 1
