NATIONAL LEAGUE 7TH MARCH 2023

Getting a bit chilly tonight, I even followed a ‘spreading lorry’ and got a rude sign when I mentioned he was loosing the load !! No slip up’s DORKING. They face a BARNET side who got back to winning way’s last week, game on and the 1216 crowd get ready, temperature dropping and the ‘DORKING ‘chorus boy’s at the ready. They line up and BARNET boast a front ‘5’ what’s the chances of a pass back and a thump up top !!

This causes the first incident of the match,30 sec’s in fact, ED HARRIS challenge’s with BARNET’S, KAMAMBA which leaves the DORKING man spark out. It brought a new meaning too ‘running the third man’ it was ‘why not run over him ‘ clumsy more than anything, but PHILPOTT has to replace. Dorking try to get on the front foot and the visitor’s appear content to play the edge of the box, could have been a ‘suck me in ‘ tactic because they break and rasping shot hit’s the woodwork bounce’s straight down, was it it in? Honest keeper LINCOLN gather’s this on 7 min’s. BARNET get some momentum going, but all a little zonal, but who care’s as KANU hits a perfect cross into HARRY SMITH who guides the ball into the roof of the net, great header BARNET ‘ one’ to the good on 12 mins. DORKING forge forward to create a fight back and on 15 mins a low cross into the area ,only had more mud on it at the end of it’s journey.22 mins and MOORE had a shot that lost it’s power as it went into the ground first. Keeper WALKER lets fly, DORKING struggle with the clearance and KABAMBA misses a golden chance ,as he hits it wide-encouraged by the home crowd of course. DORKING huffing and puffing but not blowing anything down, then on 28 mins WHEELER cuts inside and makes WALKER earn an applause from the travelling support. PRIOR rifles a shot into the side netting, which looked closer than it was. All this time BARNET sitting deep, but with defender known as ‘MOUSSE’ winning the majority of header’s they seemed this was the way it’s going to be-the way I look at that is ‘more in their half less in yours what I do I know ‘ DORKING were trying to play around and one move saw a BJ TAYLOR effort that WALKER turn’s over, on 34min’s. 40 min’s and DORKING gain control again and BARNET’S front line not tracking back as they should allows a move finding JOSH TAYLOR who finished with competence and bring it all square-someone’s ear’s will be burning at the break .At the close of the half DORKING’S, defender COOK got booked for a silly diving tackle ,no need as the player was heading in the dressing room direction ,and they doubled up on him. No panic. Still h/t 1 -1

Were off and so is COOK,47 min’s clash of head’s FULLER replaces-BARNET don’t need heading practice again mis-fortune.53 min’s saw good work by OTTAWAY but the pass went unrewarded ,then on 58 min’s you will struggle to see a better strike-well the keeper didn’t see it. As FRANCOMBE some 27.5 feet, caresses the shot into the roof of the net, keepers top right ,it was in as it left the boot-FANTASTIC, there was even acknowledgement from the the away support 2-1 DORKING, ,mobiles at the ready ,what’s every-one else doing As you know point’s are needed !!.61 mins BARNET change POTTER with SENIOR, followed by DORKING changing OTTAWAY for McSHANE .on 63 mins. DORKING then start to lay back this giving BARNET possession without really have to work for it. This is quite unnerving to watch when your opponents have several player’s over 5ft 12ins !! Spaces appear and SENIOR does possess a few tricks and he dart’s around the middle of the park, luckily getting ushered away. SMITH ( maybe injured) replaced by HALL ,who strikes a decent ball but it would appear DORKING happy to ride their luck, as the out of sorts PRIOR struggling to hold play up-he has been clumped carefully around, still that’s football. The game became a bit’ missy mashy’ and the penalty area seemed to be a risky but safe haven for capt GRAIG and the defending side. LINCOLN in goal was calm, again clear in decision making and only the home support nervous. On 90 mins, BARNET swap ARMSTRONG for MAYO, surely not to spread play about ,although in the last added 6 mins was not an easy watch. DORKING worked harder as a team and perhaps BARNET could have remembered how far their supporters had come.to watch a talented team maybe not give as much as they could. Well done DORKING thank you for some entertaining stuff.

FINAL SCORE- DORKING WANDERER’S 2 BARNET FC 1
