ISTHMIAN LEAGUE -SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION

21ST JANUARY 2023 KICK OFF 15-.00 PM

This game survived the cold and freezing, and the players were like greyhound’s out the trap’s surely they can’t maintain this pace.3g pitch allows player’s with a general touch to feel more at ease in possession but the speed they are going at the game will be over quicker than we started-lets see how fit you are lad’s!! With a mere 3 min’s gone a miscue by South Park defender saw a corner conceded. neat delivery – one of many by Town’s Williams-and it is met with good jump and powerful header from Edward’s, 1-0 the visitors. Celebrations a little O,T,T. but hey love the one your with. Even from early doors a great match up in the making South Park defender Ford against Ceesay, as also a few more over the pitch.in truth two honest teams going for it.10 mins gone and the first crunch happens, as the two number 8’s contest, Thatcham’s Martin in the book of(being assessed ref Mr Fidler) the official. The kettle was just starting to boil and not long after South Park no 8 Healy flew into a challenge and the ref didn’t think it was’ sweet ‘after 8 and he got the red card. A little harsh but too many had gone and it could have been nipped in the bud earlier. Park down to 10.It go’s from bad to worst, as Ceesay gets the ball on the right and hit’s a nice simple ball into Williams-there was more arms up in the air than a rock concert-as he heads towards goal and fires across keeper Basey to make it 2-0 Thatcham Town.20 mins played. At this stage believe it or not the pace of the game was fantastic. and with ‘The Sparks’ having to chase the game they must have thought that the opposition’s half was like the new ULEZ ZONE but give up- never. they gained a penalty which King converted on 31 mins. Now 1-2,we head towards the break with neither side holding back, a few comments about ‘Fidler’ on the pitch but with every-one running it could be the man who walked have the deciding factor is this warmly contested affair h/t 1-2.

We start as we finished, commitment all the way South Park matching anything given and a bit of reshuffling allows them to do this, good work by the staff. At first glance who would have thought it was even stevens, but on the hour a hopeful ball forward by Edwards and a total mis-read of the bounce by Basey saw the ball go over the keeper and ball ushered into the net, visitors back with a two goal lead, as the song goes ‘diamonds are not forever ‘.We have the kick off and as the crowd are under a cloud of disbelief South Park scamper up the pitch and within a minute or two pull a goal back 2-3,McGee notching. Well ‘ my hands are freezing and my eyes still weep’ but I wouldn’t have missed this one, regardless of the league pyramid, entertainment provided is great .South Park are now chasing the game so spaces will and are appearing, plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘arrs’ ringing around, as we were still running in the late period of the game ,another surprise was about to happen, sadly as Park pushed forward with all defenders up on the half way line ,a swift low pass found replacement ‘ Harry’ who fleet footed towards goal hotly pursued by the ‘ keystone cops’ he rounded the advancing keeper and finished to make it an away victory. F/T SouthPark 2 Thatcham Town 4

My personal feeling about the game, very enjoyable and at times out of this world shame it was ‘the men in black’ who took charge spoiled it a little.
