FA CUP FOURTH ROUND QUALIFYING — 15TH OCTOBER 2022

Hot on gossip, three changes from last week’s trip to Altrincham where Dorking suffered a 4-1 defeat. Keeper Huk replacing the cricket playing Lincoln. Dan Quick not making the bench and Philpot gets the nod, then a change in tactics as forward Ottaway is sub and Sami El-abd shores up the defence-‘ there may-be trouble ahead ‘.

We start the encounter with the visitor’s showing confidence and pushing a high line with full back Camp ready and willing to attack any space, the same on the other side with Kelly looking to do likewise, and they look happy to drop in to cover any spaces that appear. No real clear-cut chances and it was 10 mins before Dorking made any forward movement but caught offside as Eastleigh step up. Dorking try to build again and Muitt was bundled over, free kick met the ‘ mitts’ of keeper McDonnell, who looked very assured in between the sticks. On 23 mins Eastleigh’s Hesketh disposes B J Taylor and beams in towards the goal, Hès shot didn’t match the good work that got him there. It was 25 mins when Muitt jinked into the area but blasted into the side netting. At this stage the game was a bit ‘tit 4 tat’ and not easy on the eye, all in all it looked like both teams were playing for a draw, we needed a delivery from ‘ deliveroo ‘, and guess what. In added on time Eastliegh defender Kelly gave a free kick away .BJ Taylor, got off his bike to float a perfect cross which Gallagher nodded home into net, whistle blows and a tad fortunate Dorking lead 1-0.

Second half begins with the dark clouds looking, as if we might get the odd bucket of wet stuff .48 mins and Hesketh sends in a free kick that no one appeared to be bothered about poor ol Jake !! Dorking then went into a ‘ hurry sturry ‘ style of football, rushing but getting going nowhere, on 54 mins Eastliegh forward Tristian Abrahams took advantage of lapse defending and turned to slot home to level the scores. On 60 mins Dorking clear a free kick and the ball releases Bowerman, who gets upended now we have confusion, mistakes constant appealing and a few ‘buckets of the wet stuff ‘-a game of football, may have turned up!! 68 mins saw a Muitt strike that was goal bound but them ‘ safety mitts ‘were ready and dealt with the danger but concedes a corner. The ball broke and Hill heads towards Dorking’s goal he pushes the ball out wide, Kelly chips a delightful cross and it seemed the longest ‘1-2’ saw an unattended Hill flick Eastliegh into the lead 1-2.

Dorking were struggling to find their whereabouts, and when the ball was sent down the middle of the pitch the central defenders couldn’t whose turn it was to kick it, Huk in goal done well to force play wide but the cross finally gets to destination ‘GOAL’ as sub-Whitehall puts things beyond reach and knocks in number 3.- I’d like to mention Whitehall plays a lovely simple ball and control is neat and tidy, I’m assuming he must have been injured. Abrahams went close again for the visitors and hit the post. Dorking towards the end looked like they underwent some surgery, a, little disjointed and pull about, if there is some good news, Eastliegh won’t be winning the CUP. A deserved win
