National League South Play off Semi-Final 14th May 2022

This really is a take all game, bumper crowd, sun beaming and eyes gleaming ,all about dreaming. Myself personally believe experience will have a lot to do with the outcome of the result””-keep cool don’t be a fool” .Officials in charge today Ref –Dean Watson ,Assistants -Laurentiu Hantea, Valentine Anekwe 4th assistant Stephen Parkinson (everyone has a part to play to create at the very least a watchable game).

Dorking enter the fray with ” ain’t no stopping us now ” blasting in the back ground ,Oxford City- very well supported- greet their fans with a warm smile and clap.

We start with Dorking making immediate use of their wide men, and because they pin one on either side if you are playing with a’ three’ you will be stretched.1st corner for Dorking inside 28 secs, followed by a McShane hoick of a shot ,who was unattended ,all within 4 mins .Oxford City looking unsure, and that put under pressure with quick pressing from Dorking, do they hit long or do they play short, but even this early on they appeared overawed. Then on 7 minutes Muitt was shut down – plays the ball back to Fuller who returns a simple ball back into space which is then delivered into the danger zone which was met with a text book header from Prior. 1 – 0 Dorking.

Crowd very vocal and Dorking steamrolled forward with most of the good work coming down the flanks. On one instance caused problems for fall-back Zico Asare who was injured trying to stop another attack(in fact the treatment he got from his physio becoming a contortionist maybe could be another string to his bow) good news he recovered, sadly his side didn’t. On 18 mins Cheadle struck a lovely corner in, Prior knocks on and captain Fuller riffles the ball high into the net. 2 – 0 Dorking. A drinks break on 25 mins and the wish for a watchable game was turning into a washable one because at present Oxford City were being taken to the cleaners. Drinks consumed Oxford create their first strike on goal at 30 mins, but sadly like a poor matador they had no one to take the game by the horns from Dorking. We plod into half- time Dorking Wanderers 2 Oxford City 0.

No doubt given a dusting down or least questions being asked there was no time to shake the flow of the game with Dorking screaming for a hand ball which was waved away- the ball going out wide, then being whipped back in and Rutherford nodding in a delightful header. 3 – 0 Dorking 47 mins. It looked like Oxford City being hung out to dry. Changes being made constantly by both sides, the most prominent being Oxford’s Jacob Bancroft( did come on just before the break) who ,moved around, found space and tried to link play. Sadly no cohesion as Oxford continued to puff their cheeks they looked drained. They had the odd chance, but in the cold light of day they were well beaten. Whenever Oxford did get a chance Dorking replied – just like Bobby Brown ” Two can play at that game”

Man of the match, Luke Moore constantly shut down space and had plenty of NAS(nice and simple)about the whole performance

Final score Dorking Wanderers 3 Oxford City 0

Oxford City with a young side ,you will learn from this some days are not as good as other’s
