Good Friday 15th April 2022 National League South

Things have started to heat up as far as promotion and titles are concerned ,with the visitors able to get themselves into contention with a win today .Good crowd of 1610 on this Easter break and the support should “egg” on both sides.

Chippenham start off looking in control of proceedings ,with some neat touches in and around Dorking’s area Their forward Jordan Young, showing a desire to win and linking play both from deep and wide positions .But it was fellow forward Tom Mehew .who caused concern .with a sharp snap shot that Dorking keeper Lincoln ,played well to palm away. Dorking did start wake up and down the flank’s seemed to be their best chance, meaning that the visitors were often stretched ,and the full backs isolated leading to some ‘hot cross fun ‘on 7 mins the ball was laid back for Kennedy to hit a fearsome drive ,on its journey the ball was deflected leaving keeper Henry unable to correct his torso ,as Jason Prior notched Dorking into the lead. Again Chippenham pushed forward and seemed destined to make this an honest contest ,on numerous occasions Dorking had to rely with a dogged attitude in the middle of the park with both Fogden and Mr Hoover alias Luke Moore collecting any loose debris .

The rewards were paid on 19 mins ,when a ball was played into Prior who looked as if he was going to blast a shot goal-bound, when he trapped the ball and played a soft pass into McShane to nestle the ball into the bottom right hand post 2-0 Dorking. Considering the way the game was going the visitors felt a little hard done by, there were a few Ooh’s and Rr’s (no pun about the west country ),Some gritty stuff soon followed ,as Chippenham full back Greenslade challenged for an ariel ball, managed to upend a Dorking player ,to which Manager Marc White took an exception to and was soon booked for giving a bit of “bunny”. 35mins saw the game near enough to put to bed as a short throw ended up in a congested goal area and in the melee McShane put the score to 3-0 – don’t know how perhaps I should ask Ali Bongo-an old magician.

The old saying is” its a game of two halves” but to be honest their is luck and their is no luck .Chippenham seemed to be blessed with the latter. 51and 52 mins good chances but not executed, 59 mins – possible penalty, all a bit much- they continued to ‘pepper’ Dorking’s goal but couldn’t rub the salt in. Dorking did have Wheeler who became the main source of attack, and did put things on the front foot, for a while .But I have say with the game looking safe ,some impressive football was being played out in front of us mainly by Chippenham, but Dorking’s gruesome twosome shored things up. Again 63mins,65 mins and71 mins all near misses for Chippenham .They have some players who went to end and must be a pleasure to work with so all is not lost for the visitors. Well done Dorking a job done and good to see good resilience in the second half. The game was “dead and buried ” lets hope Monday keeps the “resurrection” going
