SATURDAY 28TH JANUARY 2022 ISTHMIAN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Along with the crowd the clouds follow in ,casting a shadow all around. As the game started it was if someone flicked the light switch and the bill hadn’t been paid- come on player’s give us light !! It was a blip ,the pitch a little muddy so a nice crisp pass was required this wasn’t conducive to K’s style of play ,however this enabled Merstham’s combativeness to keep the home supporter’s interested .The picture is set referee Scott allowing the game to flow ,complaint’s bellowing around the ground “who give’s these fella’s the instruction’s,” because most game’s i’ve been too it appears to follow the same pattern- we have no V A R !! we digress .Keepers at both ends look assured, Bull for Merstham and the evergreen Tolfrey for K’s. Although K’s on top they lacked a penetrative cross when they had time and space to otherwise .At the close of the half ex-moatsider Saraiva hit a peach of a free kick top right corner to watch keeper Toby Bull push it away .H/T 0-0

Action straight away ,Merstham corner good delivery like the crown jewels everyone looking no touching, missed opportunity. The ball ended up down the bye line ,Merstham’s Anderson try’s to exchange shirts and booking follows ,The next phase ( who am i to use that word ) brings another 2 bookings as all 3 officials gather to decide the outcome. Then its calmed down by a drop ball up the other end .Back to matter of football ,K’s Cook served up a delicious shot bottom right hand post which Bull is equal too ,then finishes that with a point blank stop from K’s Ajakiye-top drawer save..10 minutes fly by, and a neat through ball sees the keeper dash out to clear the danger, don’t know what row it ended but its still 0-0.Both benches ring the changes K’S for the winner and I think Merstham for fresh leg’s ,a lot of hard work has been put in .As K’s pushed on there was always a chance of a counter attack, and when there was 100 arms waving play on, it was the one arm that counted .As the home side battled away ,surely another break was on ,then 82mins saw Luke Cook home in ,he had time and space but no composure.85mins saw the same man again but this time stopped by a great cover tackle. Then in the dying seconds a clash on the halfway line saw both sets of players doing a bit of shadow boxing, luckily like the score line no one could provide the knockout punch. f/t 0-0

Good luck to Merstham’s John Ufuah who has gone to Conneys Quay for full time footaball, down in Wales
