FA  TROPHY  THIRD  ROUND

8TH FEBRUARY 2020

Lessons are learnt on all journeys, experience prevailed today. AFC Fylde ate all their breakfast, that’s for sure.  Opening exchanges, immediate pressure, ball getting lofted in continuously into the Dorking area. AFC forward Williams, playing in behind Dorking’s back line, causing unrest for Dorking’s playful manner of football. Thumping tackles, physical exchanges causing a great point blank save from Dorking keeper Huk on five minutes. Dorking looking for movement – slight change of style(without injured forward Prior) on twenty one minutes saw Briggs dance down the right flank, delivering a low driving cross for McShane readjusting his posture to rifle the home side one up.

Dorking a little gun ho allows space in behind the mid field giving AFC to start their bombardment. They were awarded a free kick by the excellent ref Alan Dale, up stepped Haughton who guided a beauty into the bottom right of Huk’s goal. Thirty three minutes, and it’s one a piece. Great excitement brewing up to H/T  it’s all “Bits and pieces” referee blows and I’m glad it’s all over – Half time 1-1.

SECOND  HALF

Starts with a heavy clash, Dorking’s Daniel Gallagher, left some what confused but no more than the crowd. Dorking with the first shot on goal, found AFC to be calm. Then forward Williams, was hauled down- to be honest two defender’s backed off and he forced himself into a closed door. Up stepped Haughton, nice strike, Huk parries the free kick but defender Byrne smashes home 2-1 AFC on fifty four minutes.

Fifty nine minutes – Dorking attack, Barham chips to back post, poor clearance and it’s two each as Briggs fire the equaliser. Player’s now blowing more than the ref ! Double substitution by AFC, showing no rushing and looking comfortable in possession and gaining more space throughout the pitch. Dorking appeared to be chasing the game they were still in – What was the rush ? Then Dorking stood off and allowed Williams to assist Croasdale to put AFC 3-2 up on seventy five minutes.

Dorking guilty of the same on eighty three minutes, Haughton calmly finding his favourite spot again, making it 4-2 to the visitors.

Note:  Always leave enough petrol in your tank.

“Great game, deserved win for AFC Fylde”

Good luck in the next round.

Final score Dorking Wanderers 2   –     AFC Fylde   4
