PREMIER  DIVISION

LEATHERHEAD   VS  MERSTHAM

0              –              0

25TH JANUARY 2020

Fresh but cold afternoon, surprisingly the river Mole hasn’t left the pitch as sodden as normal after heavy rain. ”Why is he telling us about the pitch you may ask” ?

Well, it’s to mention, there wasn’t any excuse, apart from an odd slip, not to be able to play football on it, however, these two teams managed not to!

Harsh you may think, but fitness, enthusiasm and competitiveness was all good. In fact everyone trying to impress……………..but who ?

I never saw a smile, enjoyment seemed to be replaced by a snarl, the only short pass I saw was an under hit long one. The game was being played too quickly, and the brains couldn’t keep up with the feet.

It was thirty two minutes, when a Mensah of Merstham shot went just wide of the keeper’s right hand post, when a clap erupted among the 386 crowd.

On thirty eight minutes 774 eyes saw McNab of Leatherhead slot home across the keeper, but ruled to be off side by VTL – Very Tall Lines-Man (hence the 2 extra eyes) Half Time 0 – 0

SECOND  HALF

Very much the same. Honest endeavour, commitment and tireless running, but all to no avail.  Merstham possibly being the better of the two sides.

“Lads take time to breath, and enjoy the game of football”

We understand that no teams want to lose, and both sides suffering from squad injuries, but some -one needed to put their foot on the ball and command the game.  Back to basics, and look forward to the rest of the season.

FINAL  RESULT  0 – 0
