FA TROPHY – SECOND ROUND – 11TH JANUARY 2020

DORKING WANDERER’S 1 STOCKPORT COUNTY 1

A good following, have travelled down to watch County. Tucked along-side me is an informative, polite but slightly biased County supporter (mind you, so would I be – after an eight hour round journey!)

County experience starts at the top, manager John Gannon – himself in the Stockport county hall of fame, demands honesty and commitment – surely this is not too much to ask for?

Kick-off. Stockport hunting in packs, playing the ball into wide areas, and closing down quickly, forcing hopeful clearances and keeping them on the front foot.

First decent bit of play came through County’s Nyal Bell, neat through ball, but great cover tackle by Beard. 9 mins Dorking’s McShane breaks up poor defensive play, could of pulled the trigger on two occasions, but decides to play the ball across the goal – but Prior had already been ushered towards the post – looked a bad miss, but not the case. Both teams eager to impress, chances had to be carved out – rather than lapses in concentration.

Both sides including Dorking’s McShane – two long range shots, and Osborne, Keane and Jackson similar efforts for Stockport. HALF TIME 0 – 0

2ND HALF: Similar start, but Dorking more fluent in their play, more so than Stockport’s percentage format. It makes for a truly honest and respectful exchange. Tackle’s, keen and at times heavy, but kept well in check by referee Parson’s. –“Let’s pray this carries on !”

An hour had passed, and Dorking keeper – Huk, played a pass that didn’t reach it’s destination, and Stockport’s Thomas gleefully excepted the present. 1 – 0 the visitors.

Dorking sprang into action, calling on keeper Hinchliffe – to be in the Wide Awake club. This called for a ring of changes in County line – Bell OFF Mulhearn ON. Dorking upped the anti – a deep cross from Richard’s was majestically nodded home by Prior – making it 1 a piece.Again changes from both sides hoping to aid the chase for victory.

I didn’t see them come on, but Huff N Puff were definitely visible. Final exchanges, Dorking football wise – edged proceedings, but may rue the chances created and not finished.

All in all, a good game, and my County supporter friend- still happy they are in the cup.

Replay – Tuesday, trouble being – County now know what to expect !
RESULT…………………………….WHO KNOWS !
